Judicial Reform Foundation

Pooling civil society forces to continuously promote reform in order to build a fair, just, and trustworthy judiciary for the people.

This is the mission of the Judicial Reform Foundation.

Over the past 22 years, we have consistently aspired to enable every person on this land to find a secure footing within the judicial system through monitoring and advocacy. The recently concluded National Congress on Judicial Reform has heralded the arrival of a new era of reform. We urgently need passionate and persevering partners to brainstorm diverse and creative reform strategies together!

Do you want to walk a path different from traditional legal professionals and practice the ideals of fairness and justice through your work? We are a vibrant and highly combat-ready office, and we cordially invite you to join us!

  1. Job Responsibilities (Divided into three main areas; not the workload of a single person)

    1. Bill Research, Drafting, and Advocacy

The Judges Act, Public Prosecutors Act, Attorney Regulation Act, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Lay Participation in Trials are among the bills that the JRF actively promotes. By studying foreign legislative precedents and deliberating with judges, prosecutors, attorneys, and scholars, we draft bills and advocate for legal amendments to improve the judicial system.

    2. Handling Wrongful Conviction Relief and Individual Judge/Prosecutor Evaluation Cases

Wrongful conviction relief is representative work of the JRF. The cases of Chiang Kuo-ch'ing, Hsu Tzu-chiang, and Ch'i Ho-shun are all individual cases we continue to assist. Through wrongful conviction relief and analyzing the causes of wrongful convictions, we hope to clear names and establish a better criminal trial system. Individual judge and prosecutor evaluations involve filing complaints with official authorities based on individual grievance cases involving improper treatment, thereby supervising judges and prosecutors in exercising their powers lawfully and properly, and fostering greater public trust in the judiciary.

    3. Legal Education Outreach

The JRF organizes various legal education lectures, such as "Wrongful Conviction Lectures" to convey the concept of fair trials, and "Campus Mock Trial Courts" to guide students in practically operating the lay participation system. Through these efforts, people are brought closer to the judiciary, planting the seeds of reform and mobilizing more people to participate.

  2. Qualifications

    1. Must be a qualified practicing attorney (must have completed legal apprenticeship)
    2. Interested in social issues, with a firm commitment and persistence regarding the value of fair trials
