▌Discovering problems through individual cases
We receive thousands of complaint calls every year, taking in a total of 1,589 cases in 2023.
Through these cases, we can see the entrenched ills and shortcomings of the judicial system, as well as the deprivation of human rights.
We assist with wrongful criminal cases, evaluations of judges and prosecutors, prison reform, digital rights, and major human rights violations, carrying out case rescue and exoneration.
▌From problems back to institutional reform
The problems discovered in individual cases must ultimately return to institutional reform.
Our work includes legislative research, drafting bills, holding press conferences, and organizing seminars.
We continue to push for legal amendments and lobby the legislature, hoping to improve the legal system.
▌Rooting education to build a democratic society that values human rights and the rule of law
Cultivating a next generation with good civic literacy and the ability to think independently is an important goal of legal education.
Starting from education and taking root downward, we provide students with space for discussion and critical thinking.
We organize lecture collaborations, court watch, campus mock trials, and lawyer training activities,
bringing these issues into schools through the sharing of pro bono lawyers, the wrongfully convicted, and professional workers.
▌The judiciary steps out of Taipei, and the public steps into judicial reform
In 2016, JRF stepped beyond northern Taiwan for the first time and established the Taichung Office.
Combining venue operations, we hope to effectively connect local resources on the existing foundation and create a local oasis that brings the public closer to judicial issues.
Themed exhibitions held since 2020 have drawn a cumulative total of more than 5,000 visitors.
