Seminar | 2019 Symposium on the Diagnosis, Education, and Rehabilitation of Cerebral Visual Impairment
Last edited: 2026-07-27
In the past, public awareness of the visually impaired was largely limited to ocular structural damage, while understanding of visual impairments caused by damage to visual pathways and the brain's visual centers (hereinafter referred to as cerebral visual impairment, or CVI) remained scarce, leading to widespread misunderstandings of CVI patients. Consequently, many CVI patients struggle to obtain disability certificates, fail to receive appropriate treatment and various rehabilitation resources, and worse yet, are mistakenly accused of faking blindness.
To foster a broader understanding of this issue among all sectors of society, the Symposium on the Diagnosis, Education, and Rehabilitation of Cerebral Visual Impairment invited Dr. Gordon N. Dutton, a British doctor of ophthalmology. Dr. Dutton is a senior researcher in cerebral visual impairment with over thirty years of professional experience, having participated in research and professional exchanges on cerebral visual impairment across multiple countries. The event also featured panel discussions and exchanges with figures from Taiwan's ophthalmology community, cognitive neuroscientists, and special education scholars.
