When public participation in criminal trials becomes a reality in Taiwan, how will citizen judges decide cases? To prepare for the Citizen Judges Act taking effect in 2023, courts across Taiwan have been conducting mock trials.

How do citizen judges participate in a trial? Can we find the truth in the courtroom? To help the citizen-judge system take root in Taiwan, JRF invites you to join a citizen court-observation group.

The Golden Horse Film Festival has viewing guides; mock trials need observation guides too. We have invited Attorney Lin Chun-Hung, who has extensive experience with citizen-judge mock trials, to explain what to look for in court. Other JRF colleagues will also introduce the resources available to observation-group members and help participants develop more informed public discussion.

Whether you are a high-school student curious about law, a high-school teacher looking to deepen civics lessons under the new curriculum, or simply a fan of courtroom dramas, we would be very glad to have you. Space for the Taipei session is limited, so please register early.
