Judicial Reform Foundation

Taiwan is entering a new phase after the passage of the Citizen Judges Act, and educators have identified an important question: how should students be taught to become thoughtful citizen judges? This workshop shares the JRF's experience with its Campus Mock Trial curriculum. Well received by teachers and students, the course introduces key principles and procedures of adjudication, guides students through the details of a case step by step, and then moves into group discussion so that participants can practice critical thinking and reasoning together. The lively discussions show where deliberative democracy and everyday rule-of-law education meet.

Are you an attorney interested in contributing to rule-of-law education on campus? Are you an educator who would like to organize a legal-education mock trial?
Attorneys are invited to join this workshop and later participate in revising mock-trial scripts, becoming part of the JRF's network of volunteer seed instructors for campus programs.

The JRF's ongoing mock-trial script project brings attorneys and educators together for regular professional exchange. Educators and student teachers who want to understand the citizen-judge system-and to use mock-trial exercises to practice being critical, reflective citizen judges and think about public participation in adjudication-are also welcome. Together, we hope to create more opportunities for students to reason carefully and practice the spirit of deliberative democracy.

Online Registration

This in-person workshop welcomes educators, judicial and legal professionals, nonprofit and NGO workers, and anyone interested in legal literacy and rule-of-law education.

When completing the registration form, we invite you to use the "Questions in Advance" field to briefly introduce yourself, explain why you are attending, describe what information you hope to gain or what follow-up action you would like to take, and submit any questions. This will help us prepare the workshop and make the small-group activities more effective.
