Judicial Reform Foundation

Taiwan is entering a new phase after passage of the Citizen Judges Act, and educators have identified an important question: how should students be taught to become thoughtful citizen judges? In response, the JRF has revised teaching scripts and created an integrated information website. At this important moment, the JRF and Rotary International District 3482 are jointly organizing "Practice Questions for Citizens: Citizen-Judge Mock Trial" to help cultivate citizen judges with critical awareness.

Program Objectives

  • Campus mock trials need attorneys to participate in co-teaching

In recent years, the JRF has used its Campus Mock Trial curriculum as one model of civic rule-of-law education. Attorneys are invited to join this workshop and later participate in revising mock-trial scripts, becoming part of the JRF's network of volunteer seed instructors for campus programs.

  • Create opportunities for students to reason through judicial principles and practice deliberative democracy

Well received by teachers and students, the mock-trial course introduces key principles and procedures of adjudication, leads students through the details of a case step by step, and then moves into small-group discussion so that participants can practice critical thinking and reasoning together. The resulting discussions bring deliberative democracy into everyday rule-of-law education.

Online Registration

This in-person workshop welcomes educators, judicial and legal professionals, nonprofit and NGO workers, and anyone interested in legal literacy and rule-of-law education.

When completing the registration form, we invite you to use the "Questions in Advance" field to briefly introduce yourself, explain why you are attending, describe what information you hope to gain or what follow-up action you would like to take, and submit any questions. This will help us prepare the workshop and make the group activities more effective.
