Judicial Reform Foundation, Rotary International District 3482

This event invites Professor Chang Mau-Kuei to lead an academic examination of how democratic and rule-of-law education has been practiced in Taiwan before and after the new curriculum guidelines. Teachers Huang Jen-Chi, Chu Yu-Fang, and Lin Yi-Jun will then share their experiences of continually challenging themselves and pursuing curriculum innovation in school classrooms. After the morning sessions, we will again offer a "mock trial" activity in the afternoon. Anyone interested in personally experiencing "Exercises for Citizens-Citizen Judge Mock Trials" is warmly invited to register.

Since its establishment, the Judicial Reform Foundation (JRF) has continued tomonitor the state of rule-of-law education on Taiwan's campuses and to contribute through a variety of activities, including campus lectures, mock trials, student camps, and teacher workshops.

More than two years have passed since the 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum Guidelines were formally implemented in the 2019-2020 academic year (August 2019). Drawing on teachers' experience collaborating with JRF on legal literacy, we hope to consider how JRF can play a more active role going forward.

The new Citizen Judges Act will also take effect in 2023. In addition to monitoring implementation of the system, JRF hopes to work with more educators on "Exercises for Citizens-Citizen Judge Mock Trials," helping cultivate citizen judges with critical awareness.
