Changes in social atmosphere and the legal environment have indeed brought many gender power imbalances and sexual harassment incidents to the surface.

Just when we thought gender equality was making steady progress, we repeatedly encounter unshaken biases and discrimination in schools, workplaces, and daily life. At the same time, forms of gender violence on online social networks are becoming increasingly diverse, yet also more subtle and difficult to identify.

Are you also feeling lost—wondering why we are more aware of problems now, yet these problems persist? Rather than waiting for society to improve, come and learn about the people in society who are working hard to reverse the current situation!

For this lecture, we have invited Chou Yuan-chi, a civics teacher at Taipei Municipal Nangang High School, and Teng Yu-hsuan, an attorney with extensive experience in sexual harassment lectures who has also participated in the JRF Gender Group's monitoring actions, to conduct an interactive, interdisciplinary dialogue:

  • Observations from educational settings: Teacher Chou Yuan-chi will share the current status and dilemmas of gender issues on the front lines of education, as well as how to guide and communicate with students in the classroom to help them break through stereotypes and understand gender diversity.
  • Experience from legal practice: Attorney Teng Yu-hsuan will discuss how legal practice assists victims of gender-based violence and promotes gender equality, as well as the actions taken by the JRF in prominent gender equality cases to address systemic deficiencies and unsupportive practices.
  • Case discussion and co-creation: We will hold group discussions inviting participants to examine structural issues and role dilemmas in campus gender equality cases, and to consider how to integrate rule of law education into daily campus life to foster students' rights awareness and self-protection abilities, truly rooting gender equality consciousness in campus life.

The JRF has consistently focused on improving the legal environment. Facing current challenges, we are actively participating in relevant legislative amendments and the monitoring of major cases. However, beyond retrospective fault-finding and legal reforms, we also hope that law and education can work hand in hand to go a step further. Before the end of this year, we will launch a brand-new mock trial script centered on gender issues, hoping to accompany the younger generation in learning to understand rights, protect themselves and others, and to strive for opportunities of understanding and support for stories hidden in the dark that cannot be voiced.

Regardless of your background, as long as you care about this issue, you are welcome to join this dialogue. Let us start from the educational frontline and discuss how gender equality and rule of law education can take root in this generation.
