Judicial Reform with You, Thirty Years Strong | 2025 Judicial Reform Foundation 30th Anniversary Appreciation Banquet

Judicial Reform Foundation

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Judicial Reform Foundation. Over the past thirty years, we have firmly believed that judicial reform must be a nationwide, action-oriented, and continuous endeavor, with the ultimate vision of establishing a judiciary trusted by the people.

The "you" in "Judicial Reform with You" refers to everyone who participates in, supports, and practices judicial reform.
And the "strong" in "Thirty Years Strong" represents enduring strength, Taiwan's bottom-up grassroots power, and the power to make the world take notice.

Over the past year, we have not only maintained our monthly in-person consultations at the "Judicial Reform ER" across northern, central, and southern Taiwan—handling over 1,000 public grievances, including conducting in-person interviews with more than 120 complainants and advancing 44 cases to specialized group meetings to discuss assistance and action—our rescue team also achieved a tangible exoneration and acquittal in the case of Hsieh Ching-piao. Furthermore, at the end of last year, after more than three decades of litigation, the civil damages claim against the three individuals in the Su Chien-ho case resulted in a victory for us at the high court retrial, thanks to the tireless efforts of our pro bono legal team.

In our legislative advocacy work, we have actively produced civil-society draft bills not only to meet the Constitutional Court's deadlines for legal amendments—covering issues such as searches of law firms, the Chapter on Kinship in the Civil Code, and the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act—but we also spare no effort in overseeing laws that have already been successfully enacted. We published the Four-Year Observation Report on the Civil-Society Version of the Judges Act and the Anniversary Evaluation Report on the Civil-Society Version of the Crime Victim Rights Protection Act, continuously injecting momentum into reform.

At the same time, we continue to promote legal education across Taiwan. Whether through lectures or moot courts, barely halfway through the year, the number of sessions has already matched the total for the entirety of last year. In central and southern Taiwan, events held outside the six special municipalities now account for one-third of the total. The continuous cultivation of our Taichung Office has also led to an increasing proportion of applications coming from outside the six special municipalities, as we strive to shatter the perception that "judicial reform does not cross the Choshui River."

For thirty years, relying on public support, the JRF has steadily driven the progress of the judiciary. If you have missed these past thirty years, we now invite you to join us, become a force for change, and walk with us toward the next more just thirty years.
