Summer Student Camp|Sex or No Sex: Gender Temperature Gap Under Appeal!
Last edited: 2026-08-28
Have you ever had the vague sense that within the everyday rules we take for granted, there exist invisible, hard-to-articulate frameworks? Even though the law explicitly stipulates equal rights of inheritance, the old script of "preferring sons over daughters" continues to operate quietly in practice; meanwhile, the stereotypical standards held by court practices for the "perfect victim" often obscure the hidden nature of power oppression. These phenomena reveal the "gender temperature gap" left behind during the establishment of social systems: the exact same law presents completely different warm and cold tones across different people's lived experiences. These systemic disparities, taken as a matter of course, not only lurk within the gaps of the judiciary but also limit our imagination of an egalitarian life.
Co-organized by the Judicial Reform Foundation and the Department of Law at Providence University, this camp invites you to step into the shoes of legal professionals and become issue detectives. Beginning with self-awareness through a "prejudice thermometer," the curriculum analyzes contemporary issues such as digital sexual violence and gender frameworks, followed by an on-site visit to the JRF's gender special exhibition. The event integrates the practical work of "wrongful conviction rescue" championed by the JRF, alongside a "Lay Judge Mock Trial" personally guided by attorneys, conducting practical drills centered on sexual exploitation cases. Finally, through the roundtable discussions of the "Gender Laboratory," we will formally appeal the overlooked gender temperature gaps, seeking to find a comfortable room temperature for gender within society through dialogue and advocacy actions. If you are also curious about this sense of chilliness, this temperature-resetting appeal action is all up to you—sex or no sex!
