Workshop | Who Is Suing Whom? The Truth in Data After MeToo — Journalist Sharing and Hands-On Workshop | "Prima Facie" Exhibition Series

Judicial Reform Foundation

Some waited for verdicts, while others ended up being sued instead—the answer to "who is suing whom" is often different from what you might think. These stories are actually documented in public judgments; however, when tens of thousands of data points are laid out, the truth remains obscured without the proper methods.

For this afternoon event, JRF has invited a lawyer handling gender-related cases and three frontline data and profile journalists to guide you through looking up judgments firsthand, identifying trends from massive datasets, and confronting the two toughest questions on the path of reporting and advocacy: Can these data drive institutional reform? How should the media and advocacy groups collaborate to avoid secondary victimization?

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

What This Workshop Covers

  • Navigate the Judicial Yuan Judgment System and master lookup and advanced search techniques
  • Synthesize patterns from tens of thousands of judgments, identify reportable angles, and create simple visualizations
  • Observe how a lawyer and a journalist focus on different priorities when examining the exact same judgment
  • Understand the ethics and risks of data usage: personal data, reputation, and unfinalized judgments
WHO IT'S FOR

Who Should Attend

Students in communication and law; operators of self-media and individuals who frequently voice opinions on social issues; legal professionals in law firms or workers who need to conduct data research; and anyone concerned about MeToo, gender, and judicial reform.
