2022/08/20 "I'm Definitely Going to Sue You"? Common Online Legal Disputes

When internet keyboard warriors hurl insults anonymously, join netizens to watch the commotion, doxx, or leak personal data..., the internet blurs the boundaries between people. While enjoying internet freedom, we may also unconsciously turn into invisible blades hurting others.

Is the virtual world really free from legal constraints? Can I sue people? Will doing this cause me to "get sued"? While upholding freedom of speech, how should we strike the right balance?

Want to know how professional lawyers view these instances of "suing and getting sued"? Feel free to raise your questions during registration!

The second event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series invites Attorney Wei Kuang-Hsüan to TALK with everyone about common online legal disputes involving "I'm definitely going to sue you," answering questions in everyone's minds.

2022/10/15 "Cryptocurrencies Unmasked": A Glimpse into Cryptocurrency Operations and Crime Methods

As the habit of using internet media to exchange information becomes increasingly popular, I believe everyone has heard of the term "cryptocurrency" to varying degrees! Due to its characteristics such as fast transactions and zero transaction fees, cryptocurrency has gradually gained a certain reputation in the tech and financial worlds, with many players successively plunging into this blockchain battlefield.

However, behind the mining trend, we must not ignore the many risks inherent in cryptocurrency and its mechanism! Its operational characteristics may also cause many unexpected problems, and it may even fall into a tool used by malicious actors for fraud or illegal transactions.

The third event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series invites Attorney Liao Ch'i-Chün to chat with everyone about the operational mechanisms of cryptocurrencies and the criminal risks lurking behind them. Everyone is welcome to join and ask questions actively!

2022/10/21 Farewell to Debt! —— How to End the Path of Being Chased by Debt

Why should we care about card debtors? Or rather, why do card debtors emerge?
These stories date back to 2005. Following the establishment of the Debt Debtors' Self-Help Association and amendments to the Consumer Debt Clearance Act, many people still face debt-related problems to this day.

Society's labels and stereotypes regarding card debtors mostly view them as irresponsible people, but in fact, they also hope to pursue a stable life.

This time, Szu-Szu into TALK invites Attorney Li Jui-Jen, who has long assisted the Debt Debtors' Self-Help Association, and Li Shu-Chia, the convener of the Central Taiwan Chapter of the Debt Debtors' Self-Help Association, to share their emotional journey of assistance and case sharing. 2022/11/11 Legal Professionals = Wizards? Exorcising All Sizes of Legal Problems in Your Life

What should I do if I buy a limited-edition co-branded sneaker online and the seller sends me second-hand broken slippers? What should I do if I get hit by a reckless driver while buying douhua and the other party tries to extort and frame me? What should I do if I buy an unbuilt property and construction stalls, leaving me with nowhere to live? Everyone has experienced many legal issues closely related to life to varying degrees. Whether it is traffic accident events, online shopping problems, or unbuilt property disputes, these are legal disputes lurking in daily life.

However, when everyone encounters these conflicts, they often suffer losses in silence or damage their rights and interests due to a lack of understanding. At such times, possessing some basic legal common sense will be the best weapon to safeguard interests, advocate rights, and protect oneself!

2022/11/25 Are Erotic Photos Not Covered? —— A Brief Discussion on Legal Issues Related to Sexually Explicit Private Images

In this era of rapid technological advancement, due to the development of the internet, the distance between people has also become shorter and shorter. Coupled with the impact of the epidemic, compared to physical interactions, social interactions that condense time and space have been chosen at a significantly higher rate by modern people.

However, with the semi-anonymous nature of the internet and the mixed-bag characteristics of social platform content, some private images that should not have been made public have also been placed on the crest of big data waves for people to view at will. Starting from sporadic individual cases, group-based criminal behaviors even emerged later. In places we cannot see, led by malicious actors and utilizing the ignorance of victims to exert pressure and scam private photos, erotic crime forums that spread or even sell them gradually took shape.

For the sixth event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series, we invited Attorney Lo Wan-Ch'in to face this issue together with everyone, understand the criminal problems and practical status quo that may be caused by the dissemination of sexually explicit private images on the internet. Everyone is welcome to participate and ask questions actively!

06/10 Huh, Do We Really Need to Puff? — A Brief Discussion on Drug Policy and the Causes of Miscarriages of Justice

Did you know? In certain circumstances, names like cola, ice cubes, perfume, milk tea, and coffee might be used as code names for drugs.

The problem of drug use in Taiwan has never been alleviated. Drugs appear in our daily lives through various forms, names, and packages, and emerge whenever we are curious, anxious, or vulnerable. In addition, under legal provisions, whistleblowing on upstream drug crimes can lead to sentence reductions, causing many arrested drug users to mutually accuse one another, generating a large number of misjudgments and wrongful cases.

The seventh event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series specially invites Attorney Wang Ch'en-Han to discuss the background context of drug policies and the root causes of wrongful cases with everyone. Everyone is welcome to participate actively!

07/21 Me Too! —— In Fact, These Experiences Are Not Far From Us.

Recently, the "MeToo" movement has sparked widespread discussion, and many victims, upon seeing these cases of brave voices, have also mustered the courage to share their own experiences of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

However, some people's responses to these victims are filled with disparagement and skepticism:
"Is it because you gave him room for imagination that you encountered this kind of thing? Otherwise why didn't he harass others?"
"You still have a contract and will have to see each other later, just ignore him."
"These people come out to speak after such a long time, I don't know what their intentions are, is it to destroy other people's family harmony?"

Sexual harassment and sexual assault under power dynamics make victims more prone to fear. They may choose to remain silent due to concerns about the future, dread of others' gazes, a sense of powerlessness when complaints are ignored, and fear of being blamed for hurting others. These reasons may all cause victims to suffer secondary trauma.

Overall, the cost for a perpetrator to harass someone is too low, while the consequences for a victim to file an accusation against someone are too heavy. A major feature of this kind of case is that proving one has been harassed and proving one has not harassed the other party are equally difficult things...

In the eighth event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series, we are honored to invite Attorney Ch'en I-T'ing from Chien-Li Law and Land Joint Office. She will share with everyone the issues of power-dynamic sexual assault and sexual harassment encountered in cases, as well as provide ways for everyone to protect themselves. Everyone is welcome to spare time to participate!

08/26 Property Inheritance —— Is What's Passed Down Harmony or Dispute?

Although death is the end of life, it does not mean the end of assets. The concept of inheritance is to reasonably distribute the property left behind by ancestors to descendants. However, if this process lacks careful handling, it may bring various disturbances, thereby destroying the original beautiful intention of transmission.

In terms of money distribution, feelings among relatives always face huge tests. We often hear questions about property distribution:
"Can the inheritance not be distributed according to the 'statutory share'?"
"If the distribution method cannot be negotiated and someone stubbornly refuses to stamp their seal, what should be done? What happens if inheritance procedures are not processed?"
"Elders want to leave all property to sons and nothing to daughters, is that allowed?"
"Can elders 'demand in advance' that daughters waive inheritance while alive?"

To avoid disputes caused by the above problems, understanding the details of inheritance is a crucial subject. The decedent can choose to make a will in advance, place property in trust, or make inter vivos gifts during their lifetime to handle estate distribution, but must pay attention to the issue of compulsory shares. Although methods such as wills can be used to freely dispose of estates, care must be taken not to infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of other heirs, so as to avoid subsequent disputes among relatives over the return of compulsory shares. If no pre-mortem planning is done, after the decedent passes away, their spouse and children should handle the estate tax and real estate inheritance registration within six months, and decide whether to accept the inheritance based on the decedent's financial status, while submitting an inventory of the estate to protect their own rights and interests!

In the ninth event of the Szu-Szu into TALK series, we are very honored to invite Attorney Chiang Cheng-Feng from Chien-Li Law and Land Joint Office. He will share with everyone the details that need attention in inheritance cases, as well as how to handle various inheritance problems faced. Sincerely invite everyone to spare time to participate!

09/15 A Brief Discussion on Euthanasia —— Redemption or Shackles?

Epicurus, famous for hedonism, once said: "The art of living well and dying well are one and the same." Because death cannot be avoided, what people pursue, rather than immortality, is more about how to "die well" and what counts as a "good death"?

Taiwan's current medical care includes palliative care, and the purpose is precisely to achieve the concept of a good death; while the original meaning of euthanasia is a "good death" or "pain-free death," what it pursues is likewise the concept of a good death. That being the case, what is the difference between palliative care and euthanasia? Why, even though legal provisions passed the Hospice Palliative Care Act and the Patient Right to Autonomy Act, can there still not be a choice for euthanasia? With the existence of palliative care, do we no longer need euthanasia?

Controversies over the issue of euthanasia continue unabated. What concerns might there be if the law were to pass euthanasia? And why is euthanasia an issue worthy of everyone's attention and reflection?

For the tenth Szu-Szu into TALK lecture, we invited Attorney Chi Yüeh-Liang, who holds the dual identity of a lawyer and a counseling psychologist, to share and discuss views on euthanasia from both legal and psychological perspectives. Everyone is welcome to actively ask questions and participate, and think together about the importance of the existence or absence of euthanasia.

10/21 Discussion on AI Copyright —— Who is the "Master" of AI Creation

With the launch of AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, the application of AI technology is no longer limited to the high-tech industry imagined in the past; it has gradually penetrated our daily lives, leaving its footprint in the stock market, public infrastructure, academic research, and even beauty and graphic sharing. More and more users are flexibly utilizing AI to carry out daily tasks more efficiently, such as quickly generating related works by inputting specific painting styles, painter names, etc.

However, this application has triggered copyright-related discussions and controversies. Do AI works generated through trained models possess copyright? If so, to whom should the copyright belong? The original painters in the AI training data, the AI itself, or the user who input keywords?

Many creators oppose their works becoming targets of AI imitation, to prevent users from creating works similar to theirs and profiting in their name, or even engaging in behaviors that damage their reputation. How should these creators protect themselves at the legal level?

In the eleventh Szu-Szu into TALK lecture event, we are honored to invite Attorney Chou I-Pin. He will introduce copyright legal knowledge, current dilemmas and controversies of AI in copyright, and how to safeguard one's rights and interests when facing potential infringement. Everyone is welcome to participate actively!

12/09 Reasonable? Unreasonable? —— A Brief Discussion on the Role of Mental Health Leave in University Life

Have you ever woken up in the morning with your body pulled down by pressure like quicksand, unable to find moments to strive to live...
One can take sick leave when catching a cold or getting sick; there is menstrual leave when discomfort strikes during periods; so can one rest when mentally unwell?

What on earth is mental health leave? Can you take leave without proof? Why are more and more universities adding this unconventional leave-taking method?
Many skeptical voices believe mental health leave is a system that makes it easier for college students to skip classes, offering no substantial help to students' mental health, and wonder whether subsequent follow-up care systems might overwhelm counseling networks. All these questions in our hearts will be resolved by the twelfth Szu-Szu into TALK!

For the twelfth Szu-Szu into TALK lecture, we invited Professor Cheng I-Shih, Director of the Health and Counseling Center at Tunghai University, to introduce and discuss the issue of mental health leave through the dual roles of a counseling center director and a social work professor. Everyone is welcome to actively ask questions and participate, jointly reflecting on the importance of the mental health leave system.
